CLASSES AT KMA
SILK DYEING BY JOY MEADOWS

Joy Meadows is delighted to be offering several silk dyeing classes.  Her training is primarily from nationally and internationally known instructors at SPIN (Silk Painters International, Washington, DC) and from numerous classes at Arrowmont in Gatlinburg, TN.  She has a passion for textiles and color and happily shares both; She’ll make these projects easy to understand and successfully create.  You don’t have to consider yourself an ‘artist’ to be accomplished in this art form.  All levels.    Cost for each class is $100 for members and $110 for non-members of KMA
October 5, 1-4 pm, Sumptuous Silk Scarves, Adult silk dying class.  Using China Silk (8” x 54” scarf) and a resist called gutta; we’ll design some beautiful, wearable art. Dyes will be Jacquard Silk Dyes. All supplies will be furnished.  Instruction on design as well as learning HOW to dye on silk.  I (Joy) promise to make the process EASY and what could be more lovely than wearable, self designed  silks scarves?
October 12, 1-4 pm Burnout Velvet Scarves, Adult Class.  We’ll dye an 11” x 59” fringed burnout velvet scarf in VIVID and beautiful colors.  In my experience, NO OTHER art form produces such lush and an intense, vibrant color as this one does.  Some instruction on color as well and how to dye this type of fabric with Procion dyes.  Bring some  newspaper to lay your wet scarf to take home.  You will rinse it out in 24 hours and then voila! It’s done.  All other supplies furnished.  (Some students can finish two scarves in one class.  That’s certainly acceptable at no extra charge.)
October 19, 1-4 pm, Silk Wall Hanging for Adults.  Similar to the Silk Scarf class, we’ll dye china silk fabric, using a resist, gutta, and design a silk wall hanging, again using Jacquard Silk Dyes.  Bring pictures and/or ideas, although I will bring my huge ‘idea book’.  too.  Show your work off in your home or work setting with a silk wall hanging.
